BIRDSTONE is the only 3-year-old of his generation to win three G1 stakes and he is one of only two horses to win the Champagne, Belmont, and Travers. In the Belmont, BIRDSTONE, who was trained by Nick Zito, retired with five victories from nine starts for earnings of $1,575,600.
BIRDSTONE won two races at 2, including the Champagne Stakes-G1. At 3, BIRDSTONE emerged as one of the best of his generation. He won the Belmont Stakes-G1, defeating Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner SMARTY JONES. Then he followed that victory by winning the Travers Stakes-G1, defeating THE CLIFF'S EDGE and LION HEART, among others.

BIRDSTONE is the son of GRINDSTONE, out of Dear Birdie, by STORM BIRD. A two-time Graded Stakes Winner, GRINDSTONE won the Kentucky Derby-G1 and the Louisiana Derby-G3, finishing with career earnings of $1,224,510.
BIRDSTONE comes from a strong female family. BIRDSTONE’S first four dams are SPW Dear Birdie, G2SW HUSH DEAR, Ashland S. winner YOU ALL and NCR/NYRA SW HONEY DEAR. BIRDSTONE'S half-sister, Eclipse Champion filly BIRD TOWN, captured the fastest-ever Kentucky Oaks-G1 as well as the Acorn Stakes-G1 in 2003.
